A young man was accused of crimes he did not commit. The king then ordered him to be locked up in prison and demanded he be punished by starvation for a period of fifteen days. No food and no water!
Upon hearing that, the mother of the young man wept uncontrollably and begged the king to show mercy,
"Please, don't let my son starve for that long. I beg of you, my king! Let him eat and drink water, no matter how little. I wouldn't mind if he gets to eat only once in two days. Please, have mercy on my poor son. Please, my king!"
However, all her pleas fell on deaf ears. The king became irritated by her loud cries and shouts, and he ordered his guards to push her out.
The following morning, the mother returned to the king's palace with a bowl of food and a cup of water. She dropped to her knees, bowed her head to the floor, and cried before the king,
"Please, let my son eat the food which I brought for him. He must be very hungry by now. Please, look with pity upon him. I beg of you, my king."
But in spite of her distraught state, the king roared in anger,
"No! He must be punished as a criminal! I will make sure he starves to be as light as a feather! He still has fourteen more days to go without food!"
Having said that, the king ordered the mother to leave the palace right away and to never come back. However, the following morning, the desperate mother was at the palace again with food and water, pleading with the king. This time around, the king sent her away and threatened to kill her if she brought food to the palace again.
On the third day, the mother went to the palace, but with two empty plates. Her clothes were completely soaked with water. She said to the king,
"I didn't come with food, I only came with these empty plates."
The king stared at her angrily, then asked,
"What are the plates for?."
The mother responded,
"Since my son isn't allowed to eat, I plead with you to let me give him the plates so he can touch them and pretend there is food on them. Surely it would help ease his hunger."
The king then asked,
"And why are your clothes drenched with water?."
The mother said,
"I fell into the river on my way and got soaked."
The king allowed the mother to enter the prison to meet her son. The guards took her in and waited outside. As soon as the mother saw her son, she immediately handed him the plates and whispered to him.
"Son, I brought you food. Come on, eat fast before the guards come in."
The starving young man asked impatiently,
"Where's the food, mother? I can't see any food."
The mother whistled,
"The plates, eat them. I made the plates out of cheese. Everyone thinks they are real plates, but they are cheese. Eat them and drink some water."
The surprised young man asked,
"Water? Where's the water, mother?."
The mother whispered,
"Here... I purposely wet my clothes so I could store some water for you. I will squeeze water from my clothes into your mouth."
Tears filled the young man's eyes, he croaked,
"You've done so much, mother. You risked your life."
The mother uttered with tears streaming down her cheek,
"I can only sleep when I know my son isn't hungry and thirsty. I can do anything for you, son.".
A mother is not just a woman who gives birth to a child, she is the embodiment of love, care and sacrifice. God bless all the mothers!
I let my stories teach life lessons so please I need your support keep supporting me.
