One day, a hungry tortoise found himself without food. After thinking hard, he came up with a clever plan. He decided to visit a stingy goat who had plenty of food.
"Hey, Goat! Can I ask you a question?" the tortoise said.
"Of course," bleated the goat.
"Tell me, what’s the fastest animal on land?" asked the tortoise.
The goat replied, "It’s the cheetah, of course."
"Exactly! You’re very smart. Listen, if you give me food, I’ll make you the fastest creature on land," said the tortoise.
The goat was intrigued but skeptical. "How is that possible? Are you some kind of god?"
"I’m no god, but I have powers! I was the one who cast the spell that made the vulture so ugly," the tortoise claimed confidently.
Amazed, the goat invited the tortoise over for a feast, giving him plenty of food and drink. When the tortoise was ready to leave, the goat stopped him.
"Now it’s your turn! Make me the fastest animal!" the goat demanded eagerly.
But the tortoise burst into laughter. "You fool! I’m one of the slowest creatures alive. Didn’t you wonder why I haven’t used my so-called powers on myself? Thanks for the food!" And with that, he waddled toward the door.
The goat, furious at being tricked, grabbed the tortoise and angrily beat him, cracking his shell. "You could have just asked for food instead of fooling me!" he shouted.
Moral:
Be cautious of those who try to manipulate you. Don’t be like the gullible goat—question what people tell you, and think twice before you believe it!
