Once upon a time, in a kingdom filled with animals, an old king decided to celebrate his 100th birthday with a grand party. He promised it would be the best celebration ever, complete with delicious food, fine wine, lively music, dancing, games, and much more.
On the night of the party, the castle grounds overflowed with excited animals. After everyone danced and enjoyed themselves, the king announced, “My dear friends, it’s time for the feast! But first, you need to pick a partner to share your meal. Once you choose, you’ll head into the castle together to enjoy the feast!”
The animals quickly paired up: the lion chose the tiger, the dog picked the hyena, the elephant teamed up with the hippopotamus, and the pig chose the warthog. But in the midst of all this, a greedy giraffe had a different idea. He thought to himself, “If I choose a big animal, we’ll compete for the food. I need a tiny partner so I can eat more!”
Without a second thought, the giraffe chose the grasshopper, knowing it would only eat a small portion.
After all the animals paired up, the king returned with exciting news: “Before we feast, there’s a game! Each team will push a heavy rock to the other side of the fence. Once you succeed, you can enter the castle for your meal!”
As the other animals cheered and prepared for the game, the giraffe felt a wave of panic. He realized he couldn’t possibly push a heavy rock with such a tiny partner. Regret washed over him; he wished he had chosen someone of his own size.
While the other animals easily pushed their rocks together, the giraffe struggled. He tried with all his strength, but the rock was too heavy. Determined not to give up, he began to pull the rock instead. With every ounce of energy, he strained and pulled, but ultimately, he collapsed from the effort. Though he survived, his body never returned to its normal length due to the overstretching.
This story reminds us that while we all desire wealth, power, and possessions, greed can lead us into trouble. When our desire becomes excessive, it can blind us to danger and the needs of others.
Let’s take this lesson to heart: we can become better people by thinking of others and learning to share. Together, we can rebuild the world into a kinder place.
