In a classroom, a teacher told the students,
"Today is Friendship Day. Everyone should stand up, face their best friend, shake hands, and tell each other 'Happy Friendship Day'. Let your friends know how much you care for them. Share lovely wishes and greetings with them and make this Friendship Day memorable."
At that moment, all the students stood up cheerfully and began to meet their friends, smiling at each other and enjoying the exciting moment. However, there was a girl who seemed to have no friends as she was standing all alone. She was an albino and her white hair was unmistakable.
The teacher pointed at her and asked,
"Hey, why are you standing all alone? Who's your best friend?"
The girl answered softly,
"My best friend is my mirror, and it's not here with me. It's at home in my room."
The whole class burst into uncontrollable laughter and started making fun of the albino girl. They were always looking for an opportunity to tease and taunt her.
The teacher stopped the students from laughing, and then asked the albino girl,
"What do you mean? Why did you say that your mirror is your best friend?"
The girl paused for a moment, and strangely, her eyes began to fill with tears. Then she said,
"My mirror is my best friend because it will never mock me or make fun of my appearance. When I cry, it never laughs, instead, it cries with me. When I smile, it smiles genuinely back at me. And when I am sad, it doesn't pretend to be sad. Unlike my mirror, my classmates are all mean and judgmental, and they act like they chose the way they were born. The world isn't a friendly place. It's a mean and cruel world out there. It's the humans who are mean and cruel, not the animals or things. Humans scare me for a reason. But, there are good people out there, just not enough. So teacher, let me ask... are you among the good people out there?"
Let's ask ourselves that simple question. Are we among the good people in the world? The people who understand. The people who aren't judgmental and full of hate. The type who are compassionate, empathetic, and open-minded to those who are different from them. Until you have answered those questions, you will know the group of humans you fall into. Be kind and stop judging others. Be like a mirror and never laugh when others are crying.
