A young boy and his father were out working on their farm. After a long day, they were tired and ready to go home. Just as they prepared to leave, a young man with dirty hands approached them and asked for a favor.
“Please, could you give me some water to wash my hands? They’re filthy from working at my cattle ranch,” he said.
The boy looked at him and replied,
“I’m sorry, but we don’t have much water. My father just washed his hands, and I’m about to wash mine with what’s left.”
His father then placed a hand on his son’s shoulder and said,
“Son, use the last of the water to help him wash his hands. Do it for him.”
Surprised, the boy replied,
“But, father, if I use the last water on him, there won’t be any left for me.”
The father smiled and said,
“Just trust me. Help this young man wash his hands, and don’t worry about your own. You’ll see what happens.”
Reluctantly, the boy agreed. He took the water bottle and poured it over the young man’s hands, washing them thoroughly. The young man was overjoyed and deeply grateful.
When they finished, the father turned to his son and asked,
“Son, what do you notice about your hands?”
The boy looked down, surprised.
“My hands… they’re clean!”
The father smiled and explained,
“Yes, in helping him, your own hands were washed too! The good you did for him came back to you.”
Then, with his arm around his son, the father continued,
“Remember, son, life is an echo. What you put out into the world returns to you, whether it’s kindness or harm. If you give generously and help others, life will give back to you in unexpected ways. Be positive, kind, and compassionate, for the effort you invest will always find its way back to you.”
